Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@garagekombucha.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Kombucha should always be stored in the fridge and after opening the bottle, it is advised to consume the kombucha within a maximum of 10 days to enjoy optimum flavor.

No, our kombucha only contain premium black tea, sugar, filtered water, natural fruit, florals and herbs.

One of the first things people notice about kombucha is “stuff” floating in the bottle or jelly-like substance. The little jellies or floaty bits are condensed forms of the probiotic cultures found in kombucha. If you are wondering if it's safe to consume, the answer is YES and, in fact, it indicates that your kombucha is alive and well, full of beneficial live bacteria.  In other words, the formation of little jellies or floaty bits/strands is one of the most obvious signs of a healthy kombucha brew.

In store bought or other kombuchas if you don’t find anything floating around, it can be for a few reasons. One main reason is that the kombucha is not a pure, raw brew and, in fact, is either thinned out with carbonated water, microfiltered or pasteurized to kill the live cultures. Many kombucha manufacturers pasteurize their kombucha to make it shelf stable and in doing so, however, they kill off the beneficial bacteria at the same time. They may supplement their pasteurized kombucha with probiotics, but those bacteria strains are not a natural byproduct of the fermentation process.

Our kombucha, on the other hand, is never pasteurized or filtered. This means you are getting an unadulterated kombucha that is brewed using traditional methods similar to the ancient brewing techniques. Garage Kombucha is 100% raw and never pasteurized. The next time you see floaty bits or little jellies floating around in the kombucha, you can be sure that your beverage is the real deal full of probiotic goodness. Some people choose to drink the globby bit to get an extra portion of good probiotics, but if you are not a fan of the consistency, however, feel free to take it our or to filter it out!  When you’re serving kombucha to guests or people unfamiliar with kombucha, it’s usually best to err on the “conservative” side and strain it. It’s totally up to your personal preference. Some customers use a simple stainless steel mesh strainer to filter it out.
